On January 17th WAMU 88.5 FM and America Abroad Media will broadcast Avian Flu: Pandemic Threat and the Global Response. The one-hour documentary goes beyond the headlines to provide historical context and international perspective on this potential crisis. We'll examine the 1918-1919 flu pandemic, the Ford administration's response to the 1976 swine flu scare, America's dependence on the foreign supply of a flu vaccine, and the situation on the ground in the affected countries in East Asia.
America Abroad is anchored by Ray Suarez along with correspondents Garrick Utley, Margaret Warner, Steve Roberts, and Marvin Kalb.
